January 22nd, we lucked out on a potential snow storm and got a chance to rock out with Williamsport Area High School at their Winter Semi-formal “Midnight in Manhattan” in the commons area of WAHS. All week we heard of a potential huge snow storm coming, and I just held my breath hoping we could get this dance in. Fortunately the storm missed us.
The Class of 2016 created a great theme for the night, “Midnight in Manhattan.” They were able to transform the commons area with trees, city skyline drawings and a huge clock image. The dance just didn’t feel as though it were in a high school. The only negative of the night, with over 500 students dancing and having a great time, it was HOT! My favorite memory of the night was courtesy of the senior class. They do a court for the semi-formal and after announcing the juniors and bringing out all of the seniors, we had a surprise for the audience; a flash mob dance to Lean & Dabb. The group was prepared and pulled it off perfectly.
We got a chance to debut our new photobooth for the students at WAHS. Photobooths are a great addition to any party and the line for the booth never stopped all night. I had to laugh when I heard some of the chaperones wanted to get a picture taken, but the line with the students never died down enough for them to jump in. Our photobooth is an open-air style, with a standalone base and backdrop, allowing guests to fit more people in one picture than your typical enclosed photobooth, and able to move guests in and out at a faster pace. Even at that, I couldn’t believe that in just 3 hours, we did over 600 pictures.
The class of 2016 wanted to take advantage of one of our advanced lighting setups that we have available for school events. This is something I recommend for any school event. The extra lighting helps to raise the energy of the room, while also providing an overall better look to the event as a whole. This isn’t your typical run of the mill DJ setup. With moving heads, trussing, strobes and more, this lighting setup belongs to school dances.
Special Thank You
This is the second year in a row I had the pleasure of working with WAHS for their semi-formal and I have say a special thank you to Ms. Spring Moore the class advisor for both years. Her dedication to and guidance of her students helped create a party that I loved being a part of. To make it even better, I’ll be back for prom!
